Nestlé Philippines Opens $577,000 Coffee Research Center

nestle philippines opens coffee research centerNestlé Philippines Inc. has opened a $577,000 (USD) coffee research center on approximately 5 hectares (12 acres) in Lipa City. The Nestlé Lipa Integrated Coffee Center includes nurseries for robusta seedlings, a composting facility for organic fertilizer and a demo center for new coffee varietals.

“This is a significant milestone which underlines our continuing support of the Philippine coffee industry and our commitment to creating shared value for its various stakeholders, especially the small coffee farmers,” Edith de Leon, Nestlé Philippines senior vice president, said in a formal inauguration for the facility, as reported by philstar.com.

Nestlé Philippines Inc. operates the  Nescafé coffee brand, and the company says its growing and processing operations in the Philippines affect some 30,000 farmers there.
