Austin’s Flat Track Opens Inside Skate Shop, and That May Be It

Young Austin roastery Flat Track Coffee has expanded on its cozy cool approach by opening a small bar inside No Comply skate shop on 814 W 12th St.

The vintage-bike-and-skate-obsessed roastery has been slowly building its retail presence, last year opening a 150-square-foot shop tucked in the back of Farewell Books at 913 E. Cesar Chavez, offering no food program or Wi-Fi, and a pared down coffee and espresso menu behind La Marzocco GB-5.

Co-owners Matt Bolick and Sterling Roberts recently told Zagat they have no further retail plans for Flat Track coffee, and instead plan to focus on wholesale accounts and other projects. (Update: Wright Bros. Brew & Brew, a combination craft coffee bar/craft beer concept led by Bolick and brothers Matthew and Grady Wright, is currently open at 500 San Marcos St.)

Bolick was the former head of the coffee bar Austin’s Frank, where he worked for a time under Tyler Wells of Handsome Coffee Roasters.

This article is not really accurate, Flat Track will most defiantly open more shops, and the coffee beer bar they are refuring too has been open for some time now.

Amanda, thanks for your reply. The post has been updated to mention the opening of the Wright Bros. Brew & Brew. As for your other point, this comes from the Zagat feature: “Bolick says it’s the last of its kind, since Flat Track will not open any more shops and instead will focus on other forthcoming projects.”
