San Diego’s WestBean Coffee Roasters is planning to open its first brick-and-mortar shop this October, in a high-traffic downtown spot on Broadway between 2nd and 3rd Streets.

WestBean leaders James Rauh, Andrew Karr and Paul Reizen have in short time gone from home roasters to serving some 15 wholesale accounts at restaurants and cafes throughout San Diego, including A.J.’s Fish Merchant, Alchemy Restaurant and Americana Restaurant.

Local Basile Studio, which specializes in design and fabrication with mixed hard elements, is helping with the design. The firm has worked on other prominent San Diego projects including Acme Kitchen, Underbelly, and Craft & Commerce.

The space, conveniently next to the Westgate Hotel, is limited to some 700 square feet, and WestBean says to expect cold-brew coffee on tap, pour-over and Aeropress stations, a “monster customized espresso machine pulling insane espresso, and whole lot more good things.”
