Canadian quick-service franchisors MTY Food Group has purchased the assets of the Van Houtte Cafe-Bistros franchise network from Keurig Green Mountain’s Canadian division for an undisclosed amount.

Keurig Canada will maintain ownership of the Van Houtte brand and associated wholesale business, while MTY will own and operate Van Houtte Cafe-Bistro franchises, with plans to take them “into a new era of great food and beverage service,” the companies announced today. The deal was finalized today.

There are currently 51 Van Houtte franchises throughout Quebec, with the heaviest concentration in Montreal. The franchises generated more than $25 million in total sales in the annual period ending Sept. 29. As part of the agreement, MTY will only sell Van Houtte- and Keurig-branded coffees at the stores.

MTY currently franchises some 30 brands in the quick-service segment throughout North America and parts of Europe, including bakeries, frozen yogurt, Chinese food, Korean food, Thai food, burgers and Italian food. Its existing franchises in the coffee category include the Country Style, which has more than 400 locations, and Cafe Depot, which has more than 60 locations.
