In this week’s episode of Unpacking Coffee, Kandace and Ray check in with decorated coffee professional Andy Sprenger to discuss the latest goings on with his Sweet Bloom Coffee Roasters of Lakewood, Colo.

After winning back-to-back US Brewers Cup Championships in 2011 and 2012 while representing renowned roaster/retailer Ceremony Coffee Roasters as head roaster, Sprenger returned to his native Colorado with his wife Laurel to open Sweet Bloom Coffee Roasters, firing up a 25-pound San Franciscan machine in Dec. 2013.

From the small roastery and cafe, Sweet Bloom has provided quality-forward single-origin coffees to a number of reputable cafés throughout the United States and the world, while Sprenger has maintained his reputation as one of the nicest people in coffee.

Here you can meet most of the Sweet Bloom team, including Laurel Sprenger, who describes the process behind the Sweet Bloom packaging art, which features an inversion of an etching she created while studying at the Denver Botanical Gardens:

Unpacking Coffee is a show discovering new coffee roasters one episode at a time led by Kandace and Ray of the Portland-based studio Needmore Designs, which specializes in coffee, wine and lifestyle brands.
