Entrepreneur magazine today published a great piece on Duane Sorensen, who founded Stumptown Coffee Roasters in 1999 after emptying out his bank account on a five-kilo, $8,300 roaster.
The once-modest roaster and retail coffee shop — known for its rock-androll-inspired culture — recently announced plans to expand to locations throughout the country, as well as add an iced coffee brewery.
“Coffee is as complex and beautiful as the finest wines in the world, but the majority of coffee being served and brewed is rubbish,” Sorensen told Entrepreneur. “It was the right thing to do, for coffee, my community, my customers and my employees.”
