Yet another indie music icon has plans to roast and sell custom coffee. A week after Will Oldham (a.k.a. Bonnie Prince Billie) announced he was selling coffee through his label’s website, LCD Soundsystem leader James Murphy says he plans to roast and sell a custom blend.
While doing an interview with New York Magazine to promote Shut Up and Play the Hits, a documentary of the band’s final show ever, at Madison Square Garden, Murphy said making coffee has become a passion, and he has plans to study with a master.
“For my birthday, my girlfriend got me a training course with the world champion. That’s what I’m going to do when I get back to London,” he told the magazine.
Murphy added that he plans to use the experience to begin working with a roaster in his local London.
“I thought it would be fun. I have beans that I like. I like this sometimes and that sometimes. Sometimes in the middle,” he said, adding that he plans to sell his beans at a single shop, but pending negotiations prevent him from disclosing which.
