Sara Lee Corp, which is spinning off its international coffee and tea business later this year, plans to name the new operation D.E. Master Blenders 1753, a reference to one of its coffee brands, Douwe Egberts.
Michiel Herkemij, the division’s Executive Vice President and CEO, said in a statement that the new name “expresses what we have become as an organization, as well as what we aspire to be – the best blenders in the world.”
Other Sara Lee brands in the business include Senseo, Marcilla, Pilao, L’OR EspressO, Moccona, Pickwick and Hornimans. The company earlier this year announced that it was spinning off the business in June, as well as spinning off a meats company focused on the Ball Park and Jimmy Dean Brands.
Harm-Jan van Pelt as has been named chief operating officer of the coffee and tea business that covers Eastern Europe, Australia, Asia and Latin America.
