Two Denver-area coffee roasters, Travis Gilbert and Greg Gerken, are using a Kickstarter campaign to try to develop a small-batch roasting company, known as Bean Lab Coffee Roasters, that will create individualized roasts for customers.
The pair plans to buy a $12,000 roaster to roast batches that range from six ounces to eight pounds in a location in Denver’s Highland neighborhood. Individuals will be able to request beans and batch sizes, and the pair plan to save customers’ favorite roast profiles for future purchases.
“We’ll have a few house blends available to all, but ideally we’ll be roasting on a personal level, getting to know our clients and setting up roast profiles just for them,” the pair wrote on their Kickstarter, an online funding mechanism for indie projects. “We want to further develop and build Denver’s coffee community. Half of that is the quality of the product, the other half is it’s accessibility. Bringing people into the process of how coffee gets from the plant to their cup is a priority of ours, an experience we can provide locally.”
