Counter Culture Coffee plans to open a new training location this summer in the heart of the Somerville neighborhood of Boston. The Durham, N.C.-based roastery, which develops direct trade relationships with farmers throughout the world and helps provide training and staff to independent coffee shops, has similar training centers in Atlanta, New York City, Asheville, N.C., Chicago, Washington D.C. and Durham.
The locations are “designed to help coffee professionals be stewards of quality,” as Mark Overbay, the company’s marketing and communications manager, recently told Boston.com. “Our training centers are outfitted with state of the art coffee equipment, grinders, espresso machines, and hand crafted coffee brewer wares.”
Counter Culture offers multiple education programs through its training programs, and it works with surrounding cafes to not only supply coffee, but also qualified staff.
“Anybody that touches coffee needs some level of training,” Overbay told Boston.com.
