May Shipments of Uganda Coffee Down 27 Percent

Uganda’s May coffee exports are expected to be down 27 percent from last year’s levels due to an extended rainy season.

The country’s Coffee Development Authority recently told Bloomberg that extended drying of beans may only lead to 180,000 bags of coffee this month, compared to 247,460 bags in May 2011.

Despite the delay, Uganda, may ship 3.1 to 3.2 million bags of coffee in the 2011-2012 season, which is up from original estimates of 2.8 to 2.9 million for Africa’s leading coffee exporter, sources told Bloomberg.
