Uganda Exports Down 26 Percent From A Year Ago

Coffee exports from Africa’s second biggest exporter, Uganda, are expected to drop by more than 25 percent this month compared to last year.

Uganda Coffee Exports Down in July 2012In an e-mail to Bloomberg Businessweek, the Uganda Coffee Development Authority said shipments are likely to drop to 280,000 bags this month, typically one of the most fruitful months of the country’s growing season, which begins in October.

Despite shipments due to a smaller crop in southern parts of the country also being down last month, the Authority told Bloomberg that it expects total exports for the season to be comparable to last year’s numbers, when Uganda shipped 3.15 million bags, worth some $448.9 million.
