San Francisco is abuzz with new specialty coffee shops. This month alone, at least five roasteries and/or coffee shops have opened or announced plans to open soon in the city. Here’s a quick roundup of what’s happening by the bay:
Chicago-based Intelligentsia, which bought San Francisco roastery Ecco Caffe three years ago and originally signed a Potrero Hill space lease in 2010, has announced plans — first reported by Sprudge — to rebrand the specialty roastery to create The Ecco Project, and also open an Intelligentsia San Francisco roastery and cafe.
Also in Potrero Hill, a small cafe serving espresso and coffee drinks, Front Cafe, has opened at 150 Mississippi.
Contraband Coffee has opened its second coffee bar, inside a former firehouse at 1648 Pacific St.
Blue Bottle Coffee has continued its expansion by opening a kiosk inside the Heath Ceramic Warehouse.
Finally, Machine Coffee & Deli earlier this month opened downtown on 1024 Market St. Owned by the chefs and owners of the Mission’s popular restaurant, Foreign Cinema, the coffee shop is serving Four Barrel Coffee.
