Some well-established roasteries augmented by a wave of new roasteries in recent years may have quietly made Kansas City one of the country’s top coffee roasting destinations.
“Every time I come back to KC, I love it more and more,” Jason Burton, who runs Kansas City-based beverage marketing company the Lab, recently told the Kansas City Star. “I feel like Kansas City’s coffee scene is (among the) top five in the country. We really play in that ballpark.”
The Star article notes longtime KC roasting powers like the Roasterie and Broadway Cafe, but it also notes some smaller players who have popped up recently (including Parisi Artisan Coffee, Oddly Correct Coffee Roasters and Quay Coffee) that are churning out equally high-caliber coffees.
The Star even gives some shouts out to coffee roasters and cutting-edge cafes in K.C.’s burbs and outlying cities, including Benetti’s in Raytown, PT’s Flying Monkey in Topeka, Revocup in Overland Park and E.F. Hobbs Specialty Coffee in Shawnee.
For a fuller picture of Kansas City’s coffee scene, including its now annual tour of coffee businesses known as the Caffeine Crawl, check out the full Star article.
