An Alexandria, Va.-based coffee roaster with a retail cafe a stone’s throw from the White House plans to boost its operations and its profile with the opening of a new roasting facility, coffee bar and training/cupping lab.
M.E. Swing Coffee Roasters, which has been known as Swing’s since it began roasting in the D.C. area in 1916, is currently renovating a space formerly occupied by the Gold Crust Baking Company in a mixed industrial and commercial area at 501 E. Monroe Ave., in Alexandria.
The new facility will include a high-end coffee bar with espresso drinks and pour-over coffees, as well as a training and cupping lab.
“We expect our new space to be a hit in the surrounding neighborhood, a coffee destination location,” says Swings’s owner Mark Warmuth.,” who adds that he hopes the venue will allow the coffee roasting company “to further educate retail and wholesale customers about all things coffee.”
Warmuth says the company plans to have wholesale roasting operations up and running at the new facility in November, with retail operations opening soon afterward.
