Starbucks Close to ‘Milestone Deal’ for Nordic Market

Starbucks coffee logoStarbucks is expected to soon announce a deal with the Norwegian firm Umoe Restaurant Group that will likely provide a significant boost to the Seattle-based company’s presence in the Nordic region.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Starbucks plans to open a stand-alone Oslo store next year before expanding into Stockholm, Sweden. Starbucks Europe currently operates eight retail cafes in Nordic countries, but few of them are stand-alone locations in urban centers.

Norway, Sweden and Denmark are considered to be some of the highest-consuming per capita coffee countries in the world.

“This is a milestone deal,” Michelle Gass, head of Starbucks Europe operations, told the Wall Street Journal yesterday.
