Konstantinos Komninakis of Greece has been named the 2016 World Cezve/Ibrik Champion following four full days of competition among 19 national winners at the Gulfood event in Dubai, UAE.
This was the ninth version of the Cevre/Ibrik Championships, celebrating the traditional manual brew method in a competition format that involves preparing two drinks — a traditional cevre/ibrik drink and a signature cevre/ibrik drink — for a panel of sensory and technical judges. Competitors are encouraged to highlight cultural twists on the brew method.
Komninakis was a first-time coffee competitor heading into the Greek championships, and he showcased a coffee from renowned Panamanian agronomist and producer Graciano Cruz.
Here are the six world championship finalists, in order of their finish:
1: Konstantinos Komninakis, Greece
2: Hazal Atesoglu, Turkey
3: Karthikeyan Rajendran, UAE
4: Ecaterina Szasz, Romania
5: Jerome Jumawan, Philippines
6: Sara Al-Ali, Saudi Arabia
The World Cezve/Ibrik Championships are presented by the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe.
