Former electrician Joe Johnston and his son, also Joe, a former hockey player, have opened a coffee roastery in historic Medford, N.J., Harvest Coffee Roastery.
The elder Johnston was pushed into the coffee business by his four children, who urged him to finally open a coffee business after he spent years as a passionate coffee connoisseur. Prior to opening the Medford shop, Johnston studied under Mané Alves at the Coffee Lab in Waterbury, Vt.
The Johnston’s are maintaining a simple and straightforward menu at Harvest, offering a roster of five coffees, including one blend and one decaf, which are also available from $13 to $15 per pound. The shop also boasts a small food menu of baked goods and fruits.
