In this week’s Unpacking Coffee, Kandace and Ray explore the “Quality of Coffee + Quality of Life” mission of Olympia Coffee Roasting, Co., based in Olympia, Wash.
The company has established a solid reputation for both coffee quality and responsible, equitable relations with producer partners over the years, winning awards such as Good Food Awards and a 2013 Roaster of the Year award from Roast Magazine. Last fall, the company moved into its expanded, renovated flagship roastery, café and lab in downtown Olympia.
Olympia co-founder, green buyer and roastmaster Oliver Stormshak chats with Kandace and Ray about the company, its dedication to employees and supply partners and its recently redesigned packaging: Compostable Biotrē block-bottomed bags from Pacific Bag, Inc., with the letterpress-printed, flippable labels that Stormshak likens to collectable baseball cards.
Unpacking Coffee is a weekly show discovering new coffee roasters one episode at a time led by Kandace and Ray of the Portland-based studio Needmore Designs, which specializes in coffee, wine and lifestyle brands.
