Coffee roasting machine maker Loring Smart Roast has named longtime marine industry executive Abbie Walther as its new president.

Formerly the vice president of operations services with Lind Marine, Walther succeeds Gordon Tredger, who was appointed president of the Santa Rosa, California-based company in early 2018.

Loring CEO Ed Barr said Walther is joining the company amidst new product developments as well as production increases.

“Abbie’s experience will be central to guiding Loring Smart Roast forward through several product developments and new technology innovations currently being crafted,” Barr said in a company announcement today.

Loring is well known in the coffee industry for its single-burner coffee roasting machines, including the 7-kilo-capacity S7 Nighthawk model, the S15 Falcon, S35 Kestrel and S70 Peregrine. Each of those machines features Loring’s patented smoke-incineration system, numerous automation capabilities and promise of energy savings compared to traditional gas drum roasters. The company also offers bean storage and transportation carts, destoners and its Roast Architect profiling and diagnostics software.

“I am genuinely honored and delighted to return to my manufacturing roots in joining the accomplished team at Loring Smart Roast as we endeavor to expand production to meet an exciting level of demand,” Walther said. “I especially enjoy working in a craft industry where opportunities to galvanize team development and refine workflow provide very tangible and gratifying, not to mention tasty, results for customers.”
