The winners of the 14th Good Food Awards were named last night in Portland, Oregon, with 14 coffee roasting companies given 16 awards for their high-quality, sustainably sourced roasted coffees.
Portland, Maine-based roaster Speckled Ax Wood Roasted Coffee took home two separate Good Food Awards with two winning roasts. Specked Ax joined fellow 2024 GFA winner Coffee By Design in representing the state of Maine.
Olympia, Washington-based Olympia Coffee was the only other roaster to win two awards. One of those went to the coffee category’s lone blended winner (as opposed to a single-origin coffee), Olympia’s Little Buddy Blend.
Overall, GFA producer the Good Foods Foundation presented 215 awards in 18 food or drink categories to specialty food/drink producers from throughout the United States. Winners are selected through blind tastings with experts in each category. The coffee category has also come to prize geographic diversity, both in terms of where coffee is sourced (global region of origin) and where it is roasted (at least three winners from each of four U.S. regions).
According to the Good Food Foundation, more than half of this year’s winning businesses are women-owned, while approximately one in six (17%) are BIPOC-owned.
Here is the complete list of 2024 winners in the coffee category (in alphabetical order based on the roaster’s name).
