Fast-growing Central Florida bagel cafe chain Jeff’s Bagel Run recently acquired its longtime coffee supplier, Otus Coffee.

Otus Co-Founders Glen and Jaclyn Turchin declined to disclose the financial terms of the deal, but told DCN that they are continuing to run the coffee roasting operation on a full-time basis.

The Turchins have been a key part of Jeff’s Bagel Run’s success since it was created by Jeff and Danielle Perera in 2019. Both businesses took off following pandemic-driven career pivots for their founders, who happened to live just three houses apart from each other in an Orlando-area neighborhood.

“They started a bagel business out of their house that was building a cult following,” Glen Turchin told DCN. “Within a year from then and many collaborations later, Jeff and Danielle opened their first bagel bakery called Jeff’s Bagel Run and we opened our roasting warehouse facility down the street. Their shop became a local staple for bagels and we were the partnered coffee sold alongside.”

Jeff’s Bagel Run is now up to eight Orlando-area locations, with 10-12 more in development. The company introduced a franchising program earlier this year.

“Acquiring Otus Coffee is a strategic step that perfectly aligns with our vision of providing exceptional products and experiences to our customers,” Jeff’s Bagel Run President Justin Wetheril said in a company announcement of the Otus acquisition. “We pride ourselves on offering the finest bagels, spreads and coffee, and this acquisition allows us to further strengthen our commitment to quality and innovation.”

Following a passion for home roasting, the Turchins launched Otus Coffee with a 1-kilo Mill City Roasters machine in 2017. The business has since grown into a dedicated roasting warehouse in Winter Garden with a 15-kilo Mill City machine.

“My friends and family thought I was crazy but I just loved roasting coffee,” said Turchin, who decided to dive full-time into the venture after being laid off from the Ruth’s Chris Steak House corporate office during the pandemic. “Nothing was more exciting than receiving new beans to roast.”

The Otus brand name will live on through the Jeff’s acquisition, and Otus will continue to support wholesale clients.

Said Glen Turchin, “We are very excited to be a part of family now for such an incredible brand that we worked alongside of since the beginning.”
