Ann Arbor, Michigan-based roaster and retailer Dozer Coffee is playing host to the second annual Michigan Roast Retreat, a daytime coffee event designed both for consumers and coffee businesses taking place Saturday, Oct. 5.
Last year’s inaugural event brought together approximately 15 coffee vendors and 250 attendees, and Dozer Coffee Cafe and Wholesale General Manager Emily Potter told DCN that this year’s event is likely to be even bigger.
“It came together because I had the idea of bringing Michigan roasters into one space for a noncompetitive day — a chance to all hang out while we don’t typically get to — and to break down egos [and] barriers between shops,” Potter told DCN. “At the end of the day we are all doing the same thing: making coffee and serving people.”
On Ann Arbor’s western edge off Jackson Road, the nearly three-year-old coffee company has the benefit of space, sharing an industrial campus with sibling company HOMES Brewery and offering numerous indoor and outdoor gathering areas.

Potter said that from a professional perspective, the event is designed for networking among roasters, green coffee sellers, wholesalers, cafe operators and more.
The event responds to an evolving specialty coffee industry in Southeast Michigan.
“Our community is pretty supportive of one another, even if some of us often have to compete for wholesale opportunities,” Potter said. “This event allows shops to leave egos at the door and just have a good time, and give a great time to ticketed guests.
General admission tickets to the event cost $25 plus fees. The first 150 ticket buyers will receive a Roast Retreat-branded tasting mug. Here’s the ticket link.
