Starbucks Undermines Sustainability Agenda with CEO’s ‘Super Commute’

Several mainstream media sources this week were quick to point out the deafening dissonance between Starbucks’ long-running claims regarding environmental sustainability and its willingness to let its new CEO commute to Seattle from his home office in California 1,100 miles away. It’s part of a new trend in corporate America called “super commuting.” Fast Company turned to the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) to help calculate the potential carbon impact, and it’s not pretty.

ICE Names Space Intelligence Partner for EUDR Compliance Product

The Intercontinental Exchange, the for-profit company that sets the coffee trading benchmark known as the “C price,” announced it is partnering with a firm called Space Intelligence for the launch of its new service designed to ensure corporate compliance of EU deforestation-free laws (EUDR).

Cerrado Growers Seek Designation of Origin Protection

The Cerrado Coffee Growers Federation has launched a campaign designed to ensure the integrity of the first approved Designation of Origin (DO) for coffees in Brazil, using the Cerrado Mineiro name. The campaign is also intended to promote the supply of DO-certified coffee on the domestic and international market.

Loring Clarifies Lead Times for New Roasters

Citing “a lot of conflicting information out there in the wild,” California-based roaster manufacturer Loring took to Facebook to announce that its current lead time for manufacturing and shipping new roasters is three to four months.
