Minnesota-based roasting equipment maker Mill City Roasters is prepping for a significant expansion this fall, with plans to expand to a nearly 40,000-square-foot-building in Northeast Minneapolis.
The one-story 1950s office and warehouse complex on NE Harding Street sits exactly one mile by car from the current Mill City home, which is being converted into a fully staffed co-roasting facility for use by local small businesses.
The new facility will include the Mill City corporate headquarters, a 5,000-square-foot roastery, 3,200-square-foot training center and a 7,000-square-foot fabrication facility. The company said it plans to continue to move portions of its existing off-shore equipment manufacturing to Minneapolis.
The company introduced its first U.S.-made laser-cut steel drums and other components with the launch of its MCR-2E electric coffee roaster last December.
The capital expenditure tied to the new headquarters facility has not been made public.
The company is currently planning a kick-off event at the new digs on Oct. 10, the eve of the Minneapolis Coffee Fest, which is coming to the Minneapolis Convention Center Oct. 11-12.
