Starbucks announced that North American CEO Michael Conway is retiring.
The move comes just five months after Conway’s appointment to the position, which was part of a broader corporate leadership restructuring based on geography.
It also comes just eight days after the official appointment of former Chipotle CEO Brian Niccol as Starbucks’ CEO. Niccol replaced Laxman Narasimhan, who spent less than half a year in the position after replacing Howard Schultz.
The company said Conway will continue to serve as an executive advisor to Starbucks through the end of November.
Prior to becoming North American CEO, Conway was the group president of international and channel development, leading Starbucks retail growth in 80 markets throughout Asia Pacific, Latin America, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Conway joined Starbucks in 2013 after serving as worldwide president of McNeil Nutritionals, the Johnson & Johnson company that produced the Splenda brand of synthetic sweeteners.
