The forecast is looking sunny for Southern California-based Pink Cloud Coffee, which recently moved from shared roasting facility and into a private roastery of its own.

At the center of the new operation is a brand new and bright pink Primo Roasting Equipment Ranger-Xr5 machine.

The move is expected to further the company’s mission of supporting addiction recovery organizations and services.

“Our goals are twofold. First, we aim to raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding addiction,” Pink Cloud Co-Founder and COO Dalton Deutsch told Daily Coffee News. “Second, we plan to expand our business to increase contributions to our partner organizations, which are crucial in helping more people enter and sustain recovery programs.”

Five percent of proceeds of sales from Pink Cloud’s website, to wholesale customers and from its mobile coffee trailer go to numerous nonprofits engaged in addiction recovery programming.

Pink Cloud as founded in late 2022 by Deutsch, a former barista who also managed three restaurants in the Santa Monica area, and CEO Jeff Archipley, who previously worked for decades in medical products sales.

“After a successful career, he was inspired to make a meaningful contribution to the recovery community, driven by a desire to give back to others who had supported him throughout his own journey,” Deutsch said.

The company launched with a converted horse trailer as a mobile coffee cart while roasting their on a shared Primo Warden-Xr30 roaster at Blackwelder Roasters in Van Nuys.

The roasting operation has maintained an emphasis on freshness and quality, purchasing specialty-grade green coffees exclusively from the current harvest year, roasting in small batches and shipping directly to customers no more than three days off the roast.

“This commitment requires strategic planning in both sourcing green beans and timing our roasting schedules to avoid any product sitting around and losing its freshness,” Deutsch told Daily Coffee News. “We take great pride in developing distinctive flavor profiles and maintaining consistency across our roasts.”

Pink Cloud buys green coffees primarily through Burbank-based brokers M.P. Mountanos of SoCal and the Louis Dreyfus Company. Those coffees are now headed to the smaller Primo machine installed in Archipley’s Los Angeles-area garage, where the company will operate under California’s cottage food laws until they outgrow it.

“The potential for growth is immense,” said Deutsch. “Given that nearly everyone is touched by addiction in some way — whether through family, friends, or colleagues — our mission to support recovery through coffee resonates deeply. We are confident that by continuing to expand and innovate, Pink Cloud Coffee will make a significant and positive impact on countless lives.”
