Now 10 years old, The Barista League event series is refining its international focus with six events planned for six different global regions.
Scaling back from 2024’s slate of 12 events, the competition series in 2025 is kicking off in Prague on March 29 before heading to: Guadalajara in May; Tokyo in June; Montreal in September; Johannesburg in October; and Sydney in November.
Produced by the specialty-coffee-focused Ordna Event Agency, The Barista League is also rolling out changes to enhance spectator engagement and coffee innovation, including a filter coffee element and changes to the judging and timing structure.
The event will include 10 teams per continent, and the team application is free. Barista teams wishing to participate in the competition will be required to send written and video submissions, which will be reviewed by The Barista League selection committee, according to the group.
“When we first started, The Barista League was truly a local community event designed to give working baristas a fun event to attend,” The Barista League Founder Steve Maloney said in an announcement of the new season. “Now, 10 years later, we have companies and baristas who travel from all over the world to be a part of the event, and we want to focus on bringing together all those coffee professionals who care about creating a better industry.”
Sponsors of The Barista League in 2025 include Rancilio, Oatly, Toddy, Pacific Foods, Puqpress, Acaia, ACME, Hollander, Supergood, Sweetbird, 1883, Barista Magazine and Standart.
