Italian industrial coffee grinder maker Colombini recently relaunched the smallest machine in its lineup, the Angel, a primarily benchtop grinder designed for smaller roasteries, cupping labs and cafes.
Originally introduced 10 years ago, the Angel now features a 3.5-inch touchscreen interface with built-in Bluetooth capabilities, enabling communication with an associated app.
“[Users] can rename the grinder, create up to five different working recipes and change the RPM of the discs directly from the app,” Colombini Export Sales Manager Marco Franchino told Daily Coffee News. “Users can check any machine error, and soon we will be able to adjust the distance between the discs from the app, too.”

Grind settings are changed in 2-micron increments and displayed on the digital screen. The new Angel also includes a reworked internal cooling system and improvements to its electronic zeroing feature. The machine now ships with a transparent polycarbonate hopper instead of the original version’s steel hopper.
The Angel is currently available in five different models, each with a different feature set and either 220V single-phase or 400V three-phase power. Some models come with bag clamps, and some come with automatic cleaning systems. The Angel PG model can be integrated directly into capsule- and pod-filling production systems.

All Angels center on a set of 128-millimeter-diameter flat burrs made from tungsten carbide, the metal used for all Colombini burrs, which the company describes as seven times harder than tempered steel.
“All our discs are made with this special and strong material, to guarantee the highest quality in all our grinding solutions,” Franchino said.
Founded in 1951 by Angelo Colombini as an automotive workshop, Colombini has been building industrial coffee grinders since the 1960s, and is now in its third generation of family ownership. The company is currently led by Marco, Paolo and Fabio Colombini in its headquarters in Settimo Torinese on the outskirts of Turin.
Today, much of the company’s industrial grinding equipment is designed to be directly integrated into large-scale, automated packaging production lines, for various formats. All Colombini models can also be installed with a stand to operate independently.
While focused primarily on markets in Europe and Asia, Colombini products are available in the United States via Florida-based distributor GPI Solution. The new Angel grinders range from €5,800 ($6,082 US as of this writing) to €10,000 ($10,486) for the Angel PG.
