CEE, a Belgian company focused on fossil-fuel-free industrial production solutions for roasting and drying, is expanding into the United States and Canada.

Leading the charge as the company’s first managing director of the Americas is Seattle-based Jeff Juneau, a former Starbucks Coffee Company vice president.

CEE said it will focus on driving “net zero coffee production” through partnerships with other manufacturers and roasting companies in the Americas.

“By combining European cleantech expertise with local industry knowledge, CEE aims to develop scalable, fossil-free solutions, accelerating the transition to sustainable, energy-efficient production across key American industrial sectors,” the company said in an announcement of the overseas expansion.

CEE was a key partner in the development of the Beyers Koffie roastery in Belgium, with CEE’s electric machinery connecting to renewable energy sources such as solar or wind. The company has also developed custom industrial roasting and production solutions for chocolate-maker Barry Callebaut and Belgian roaster Ray & Jules.

CEE claims that it offers the “world’s first industrial continuous zero-emission roasting technology” for products such as coffee, cocoa and nuts, and that “the majority of the top-20 roasters across the EU and Americas have engaged” with the company. DCN is unable to verify such claims.

Tasked with driving continued engagement in the U.S. and Canada is Juneau, who joins CEE after most recently serving as the vice president of global engineering and supply chain, according to CEE.

“CEE is redefining how industries approach sustainability by delivering scalable, disruptive solutions that reduce drastically the need for fossil fuels from production processes,” Juneau said in the announcement. “I am excited to lead CEE’s  operations in the Americas and partner with industry leaders who share our commitment to a net-zero future.”
