Cloud-based coffee software provider Flexnet is making its official United States launch at the SCA Expo in Houston next month.
Founded in Australia by longtime specialty coffee professional Caleb Sexton, the software is designed specifically for coffee roasting businesses, offering tailored solutions for CRM, sales, production and reporting.
The software package is based on monthly subscriptions, starting at $175 per month, with actual prices determined by the volume of coffee processed through the system.
“We think this is the fairest way to price, since it’s directly linked to the value we bring — the ability to scale your coffee roastery,” Sexton, who also serves as Flexnet’s CEO, recently told DCN. “It also means if you have a quiet month, it costs less.”
The software is decidedly focused on business management of roasteries, as opposed to production tasks such as green coffee sourcing or roast profiling.
The company said the software package is designed to streamline the business activities of roasters, decreasing their reliance on various spreadsheets or software-as-a-service (SaaS) tools that are not integrated. The Flexnet system is designed to integrate with popular third-party accounting and payment software such as QuickBooks, Shopify, WooCommerce and Microsoft Dynamics 365.
Based in Melbourne, Flexnet now has clients on three continents, ranging from small, boutique shops to multi-location businesses, according to the company.
Sexton founded Flexnet after nearly 16 years working at Melbourne-based Five Senses Coffee. After joining as a delivery driver while studying computer science, Sexton eventually occupied numerous production and administrative roles within the company.
“For the last 15 years, I’ve specialized in technology, roastery management systems, and data solutions,” Sexton said. “I developed a comprehensive software system at Five Senses that tackled virtually every challenge a growing coffee roastery faces — managing complex customer relationships, increasing order volumes, custom blends, inventory, equipment servicing, plus so many other ‘one-percenters’ that are really specific to a coffee roaster.”
Sexton offered some coffee-specific use cases of how the Flexnet software may be used, including generating a summarized list of production roasting requirements based on orders, and a reminder system that can prompt orders from busy cafe clients who might have forgotten to place the necessary orders to meet their shop’s demands.
Flexnet is planning to have a booth at the 2025 SCA Expo, which is taking place April 25-27.
