American Airlines is saying that spilled coffee and soft drinks over a period of years are responsible for gunking a mechanism that keeps airplane seats in place.
Three American Airlines flights have been cut short since Sept. 26, as seats on planes have come dislodged during takeoff and flight. Amid the public relations disaster, the airline has pointed the finger at its coffee-drinking customers, saying years of spills have damaged something called the seat lock plunger mechanism.
The airline company now says it plans to repair seats in 48 of its older 757s. Here’s more from CNN:
