Gimme! Coffee and Olympia Coffee Roasting Co. have taken the top honors in Roast magazine’s ninth annual Roaster of the Year competition.
The award recognizes companies that roast coffees of superior quality, exemplify a dedication to sustainable practices and employee education, and demonstrate a commitment to the coffee industry, among other criteria. The two coffee roasting companies are featured in the trade publication’s November/December 2012 issue.
Two categories of the award are presented each year. Gimme! Coffee of Ithaca N.Y., and New York City, claimed the top spot in the large (macro) roaster category, which includes companies roasting more than 100,000 pounds of coffee each year. Gimme! Coffee gained the title with its commitment to a healthy environment, community and business, and for committing to the growth and education of the individuals in the company.
Olympia Coffee Roasting Co. of Olympia, Wash., won in the small (micro) roaster category, for companies roasting less than 100,000 pounds of coffee each year. Olympia Coffee Roasting’s outstanding cupping scores propelled the company to a win.
