Combining their passions for coffee, cycling and sustainability, two British design students have created an award-winning mobile espresso bar that’s almost entirely human-powered.
Designers Amos Field Reid and Lasse Oiva created the Velopresso as part of a final project for the Royal College of London. They say the pedal power generates enough to grind a double shot, while a small camp stove heats the water for a steam-powered espresso machine. The invention has won the Deutsche Bank Award 2012 (Design), as well as second place in the Pininfarina Design Contest 2012.
