Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square Becoming Highly Caffeinated

Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square may have become the city’s unofficial coffee destination.

Metropolitan Cafe, an offshoot of Philadelphia’s Metropolitan Bakery, has opened just South of the square at 264 S. 19th St., joining already established cafes and roaster/retailers in the neighborhood including La Colombe (130 S. 19th St.), New York’s Joe Coffee (1845 Walnut St.), as well as the also new Cafe L’Aube (222 Rittenhouse condo building). Elixr Coffee, just a block-and-a-half east of the Square (207 S. Sydenham St.) also deserves a prominent mention.

Metropolitan is serving coffee from local Green Street Coffee Roasters, which documented a recent trip to the Sidamo region in Ethiopia on Metropolitan’s blog, including a photo gallery.
