The nonprofit Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) has begun using a new certification marker system, with separate marks for arabicas, robustas and blends.
The Q coffee system is designed to identify some of the world’s best coffees. Coffee companies submit their coffees for blind grading on a 100 point scale, then can market those coffees using the Q logos with a licensing agreement, including a licensing fee of 1 cent per pound. There are currently more than 1,000 certified Q coffee graders worldwide.
