Fairtrade International Introducing Awards Program for Producers and Buyers

Fairtrade International (FLO) is launching its first awards program to celebrate producers and traders throughout the world who “go the extra mile and achieve outstanding results in Fairtrade.”

The organization is currently accepting nominations for the Fairtrade Awards, which will be handed out at its annual General Assembly in Bonn, Germany, in June.

“We are excited to launch the first Fairtrade Awards to recognize and celebrate these achievements and encourage best practice,” Harriet Lamb, CEO of Fairtrade International, said in an announcement today. “It is always inspiring to hear about those, in worker committees or smallholder organizations, who go the extra mile and achieve outstanding results.”

The awards program involves four main categories:

  1. Small Producer Organisation of Year: one each from Asia, Africa and the Middle East, and Latin America and the Caribbean.
  2. Workers’ Premium Committee of the Year: one each from Asia, Africa and the Middle East, and Latin America and the Caribbean.
  3. Fairtrade Trader Award: One prize recognizing outstanding and special efforts from traders, especially those involved in innovative projects/programs
  4. Fairest Fairtrader Award: One prize that recognizes special efforts or innovation by outstanding individuals within the global Fairtrade system, including staff, board members, or consultants from producer networks, Fairtrade International, Flocert, national Fairtrade organizations, Fairtrade marketing organizations, or campaigners.
