Re:co Symposium, the annual forward-looking gathering of specialty coffee professionals, researchers, social leaders and more, has been reconfigured this year as an online event. The reimagined Re:co is happening Thursday and Friday, July 16-17.
Produced by the Specialty Coffee Association, the Re:Co Symposium is typically held in the days leading into the SCA Expo, which this year was set to take place in Portland but was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The group has forged ahead with a digital version of Re:co, offering some interesting touches designed to engage the actual senses of coffee professionals more than a typical online meeting might. The biggest change is a home kit (for purchase) that includes a curated selection of coffees from several New York City-area roasters, the Funnex single-cup brewer from Chemex, and a selection of equipment for guided sensory experiences relating to the Re:co program.
All online Re:co guests will receive access to all the talks and recordings, and access to a LinkedIn community for the event visitors to more deeply engage.
The basic registration costs $260, while the basic registration plus home kit upgrade costs $295. The Re:co Symposium Fellowship program will cover the cost of a basic registration for selected fellows. The deadline to apply for that program is today, June 25, at 5 p.m. PST.
The virtual format will be following a similar format to past Re:co Symposiums, with experts from a wide range of backgrounds and professional fields adding to a broader conversation on a single topic.
This year’s Re:co session topics include:
- State & Future of Specialty Coffee
- Pathways between Farm and Consumer: Mapping Specialty Coffee
- The Changing Consumer Experience of Specialty Coffee
- Race, Specialty Coffee, and the Urgent Need for Progress
- Creating our Future: The Role of Innovation in Specialty Coffee
