Little Waves Coffee Roasters, based in Durham, North Carolina, is featured in this issue as Roast’s 2022 Micro Roaster of the Year. Founded in 2010, Little Waves is a Latina majority-owned and women-forward company composed of people of different cultures, genders, languages, faiths and beliefs, who operate with a focus on quality and service.

Huckleberry Roasters, headquartered in Denver, took the top prize for Roast’s 2022 Macro Roaster of the Year. Established in 2011, Huckleberry strives to offer a local and global sense of collective culture and community, and seeks to provide a welcoming space for all those who walk through the door at one of their retail locations.

Coffee roasters—from at-home hobbyists to head roasters at large-scale coffee companies, and everyone in between—will require a different set of tools and equipment. There are some key items, however, that every professional roaster needs to do their job.
