Breville Spills the Beanz, an Online Marketplace with 50 US Roasters

Australia-based consumer coffee equipment maker Breville has launched an e-commerce platform called, for whole bean sales and subscriptions.

Breville Group’s Sarah Dooley, the United States-based manager for Beanz, has brought 50 North American quality-focused specialty coffee roasting companies on board for the platform that went live this week.

Combined, the roster of roasters is providing more than 200 options for different beans, blends and roast profiles.

“There’s really no better time than now to make specialty coffee beans more available to everyone,” Dooley told Daily Coffee News. “‘Where do I start?’ and, ‘What beans should I use?’ are the questions we most often hear from our customers.”

The platform also launched in the United Kingdom where Breville products are sold under the Sage brand name. Luke Powell, EMEA manager of specialty coffee for Sage, has enlisted 20 UK-based roasting companies for the launch.

Sales and subscriptions are open to the general public and are not exclusive to owners of Breville-made products. As it welcomes new customers into its system, Beanz starts with a quiz to establish preferences before making recommendations. The platform encourages subscriptions, although individual purchases are available.

“We have worked a little over a year building out an incredible menu that doesn’t challenge the already stretched supply chain that our partners are managing,” said Dooley. “Working with the best small batch roasters and being a great partner means trusting that what they bring to us will meet the needs of the folks who are new to specialty coffee, while also satisfying the adventurous nature of the more seasoned coffee consumer.”

Educational content about coffee, brewing and participating roasting companies will be added to the website on a weekly basis. Existing owners of Breville equipment can receive complimentary bags via Beanz by registering at the Breville company website.

“Our customers are relying on the fact that we know the fundamentals for delivering a true specialty coffee experience at home and the launch of not only reinforces our promise to deliver on this, it also is a foundational step forward to becoming a more solution-orientated company,” Breville CEO Jim Clayton stated in a press release announcing the platform.

Beanz US and Beanz UK are only shipping domestically, and more roasters are expected to be added to programs on both sides of the pond as time goes on.
