The eighth annual Colombia Tierra de Diversidad (Land of Diversity) green coffee auction resulted an average price of US$22.77 per pound while one winning lot earned more than $120 per pound.
Both those prices represent all-time highs for the Colombian competition, which is led by the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC) and designed to showcase top microlots of green coffee from throughout the renowned coffee-growing country.
In total, 27 lots were featured in the international auction after the competition saw another record earlier this year with entries from 750 coffee producers. The competition coffees were all harvested between the second half of 2022 through January 2023. Winning lots hailed from farms in the regions of Santander, Cauca, Huila, Antioquia and Norte de Santander.
According to the FNC, 67 buyers participated in the auction, which took place last week in Bucamaranga, Santander.
A lot produced by Domingo Torres in Ragonvalia, Norte de Santander, broke the price record, fetching $120.50 per pound from United States-based roaster Koffee Kult (Broward County, Florida).
“These excellent results fill us with pride, as they confirm that Colombian coffee is one of the most desirable,” FNC CEO Germán Bahamón said in a translated announcement from the group following the event. “And they also translate into better income and prosperity for the families that produce them, which is a priority in the institutional roadmap.”
