An old, historically significant building in the heart of Hail, Saudi Arabia, has been transformed into the modern, inviting cafe and roastery of Camel Step Coffee.
Camel Step Head of Design Faris Alosaimi led the project, which required balancing the preservation of a neglected building’s historic essence while incorporating modern and functional design elements.
“The roastery has been meticulously renovated to reflect a harmonious blend of heritage and modernity,” Camel Step said in a project description shared with Daily Coffee News. “The use of natural granite stone sourced from the Hail region adds an authentic local touch, enhancing both the interior and exterior design. The floors, designed with crushed red granite mixed with concrete, provide a unique hue that enhances the aesthetic appeal.”
While blending old and new, the roastery also blends indoors and outdoors, with one section of the roastery featuring simple wooden chairs and concrete tables, reinforcing the natural and rustic ambience.
Walls are adorned with decorative lattices that allow light and air to pass through, while climbing plants add elements of life and nature.
The roastery cafe also features a large stone fireplace made from natural granite, adding even more warmth and rustic charm within a modern specialty coffee setting.
“Camel Step Coffee Roaster offers visitors an experience that blends warmth and comfort with authenticity and modern simplicity,” the company said. “Visitors feel a sense of openness and connection to nature, while also enjoying an intimate and cozy atmosphere, making it an ideal place to relax and savor a cup of coffee in a setting that harmonizes tradition and modernity.”
