AeroPress, the maker of the widely popular immersion-plus-pressure AeroPress brewer, recently launched a high-end version called the AeroPress Premium.
Made entirely of glass and metal plus a silicone stopper, as opposed to its plastic predecessors, the AeroPress Premium commenced sales last month with a price of $149.95. By comparison, the original AeroPress brewer made its market debut nearly 20 years ago, for $29.95.
The Premium’s plunger and hexagonal bottom flange are made from anodized aluminum. The cylindrical brew chamber is a handmade dual-wall borosilicate glass, and the filter cap is stainless steel. The device ships with a stainless-steel scoop and stirrer, plus a packet of 100 paper filters.
Following a development period of approximately three years, the company sold out of its entire first production run of the Premium on the first sales day.
“While we do not comment on exact sale figures, we can happily share that it was a record day of sales that substantially beat the previous record for single-day sales on AeroPress.com,” a company spokesperson told Daily Coffee News.
A prototype of the Premium was revealed at the company’s booth at the 2023 SCA Expo in Portland, Oregon. Since then, the AeroPress Clear, XL and Go Plus models have all landed on the market.
“The double-walled glass tube that’s open on both ends was challenging to create, and is patented,” the company said. “The tolerances for the plunger to fit well inside the chamber, as well as to maintain consistent volumes inside the AeroPress, were also design and engineering hurdles.”
The final product, though inherently more breakable than other models by virtue of being glass, is nevertheless designed to be safe for travel or for use in commercial coffee bars, according to the company.
“It was built to be durable and long-lasting,” the representative said. “But like any other commercial coffee bar brewer that uses glass, a little extra care is recommended.”
Capacity within the Premium chamber is the same 1o ounces as with the AeroPress Original, Clear and Go Plus. A stainless-steel stand to hold the Premium and all accessories is available separately for $99.
