Let’s Talk Coffee Officially Coming to Lima, Peru
Seattle-based green coffee trader Sustainable Harvest announced that the 20th edition of Let’s Talk Coffee will run from September 25-27 in Lima, Peru. The invitation-only event will focus on “The Climate of Business & the Business of Climate.” Additionally, the company noted that it is working with Comisión de Promoción del Perú para la Exportación y el Turismo (PROMPERÚ) as a strategic partner for the event. Registration will open later this month.
Covoya Promotes Fresh Crop of Coffees Produced by Women
Providence, Rhode Island-based trader Covoya Coffee announced a new range of coffees available through its five-year-old Café Delas program, featuring coffee produced or farmed by women. Fresh coffees have arrived from Josefa De La Cruz Teletor, Dagmar Resende Pimenta, Guida de Oliveira Ribeiro, Denise Goncalves Westin, Carla Giacchero, Arabela Pereira Lima and a Mogiana regional lot. The program includes a 5% premium paid to the women behind the coffees.
Hawaii Coffee Association Seeks Cupping Competition Judges
The Hawaii Coffee Association (HCA) is seeking judges for the 16th Annual HCA Cupping Competition. The judging and sample evaluation of coffees featured across all of Hawaii’s growing regions will take place from May 27-30 at Roastronix in Missouri City, Texas, and judges will receive access to the awards ceremony on July 17-19 at the Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa during the 2025 HCA conference. Brazilian Port Delays Cost Coffee Exporters Millions
Logistical bottlenecks delayed over 1.8 million coffee bags from shipping out of storage in Brazil’s main ports last year, according to a recent article from the Brazilian news agency ATribuna that cited research from Cecafe. The delays resulted in approximately $9.88 million USD in losses to exporters from June through December 2024.
CQI Names Emma Sage Director of Science and Content
The Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) recently announced former director of education resources Emma Sage is now the director of science and content. Sage has been with the organization for the past eight years. “We created the Director of Science and Content role as part of our commitment to leadership in education for coffee professionals,” CQI CEO Michael Sheridan said in an announcement from the group. “That requires investment to ensure our curriculum is based on the best available science and responsive to the needs of the people we serve. I can’t think of a better person in our organization to lead that work than Emma.”
Nectarous Brings Coffee via SMS, with No Subscription Required
A new SMS-based coffee service called Nectarous launched with weekly curated selections of quality freshly-roasted coffee, including micro-lots and limited-run releases. “Our goal is to make high-end coffee as easy to order as a text to a friend,” Nectarous Founder Scott Velicer said in a press release.
ProfilePrint Launches 5th Gen AI-powered Food Ingredient Analyser
ProfilePrint just launched its 5th generation green coffee and food ingredient analyser, the Orca, which has less than a 5% prediction error capability when quantifying Arabica-Robusta proportions in coffee blends, according to the company. ProfilePrint is supporting the launch with a white paper.
Colectivo Coffee Accused of Workplace Mismanagement in Evanston
Workers from an Evanston, Illinois, location of Milwaukee-based chain Colectivo Coffee have alleged numerous workplace issues related to a toxic work environment and mismanagement, according to a report from the The Daily Northwestern. The report allegedly involved interviews with seven current and former employees plus internal communications, and Colectivo reportedly did not reply.
World of Coffee Dubai 2025 Draws 17K+ Visitors
Organizers of the Specialty Coffee Association trade show World of Coffee Dubai announced attendance at the fourth annual event, held last week, surpassed 17,000, a 30% increase over the previous year.
MTPak Launches Packaging Reimagined Contest
Coffee packaging company MTPak Coffee is inviting specialty coffee roasters around the world to enter its Packaging Reimagined Contest. The winner will either receive $5,000 cash or $10,000 in credit for MTPak Coffee products. The application is available here.
