NCA Hosting Webinar on ‘Trade War and Coffee Imports’
Attorneys from the firm Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath are leading a one-hour webinar on the evolving Unites States political trade and import landscape on March 26, hosted by the U.S. National Coffee Association (NCA). Free to NCA members, and not available to non-members, the webinar will feature “updates regarding U.S. trade policy, tariffs, and impacts to U.S. coffee imports,” the NCA said.
The “Source” Green Buying Panel and Podcast Coming to Houston
Green coffee importer Cafe Imports is hosting a green coffee buying panel discussion and podcast taping on the morning of April 26 in Houston in conjunction with the SCA Expo. Taking place at True Anomaly Brewing, “Source: A Green Buying Panel” will be moderated by Chris Baca of Cat & Cloud Coffee and will feature numerous green coffee experts.
B.C. Coffee Business Owner Speaks Out About US/Canada Tariffs
John Sanders, the owner of British Columbia-based Origins Coffee Roasters, said small businesses like his are already feeling some pain from tariffs between the U.S. and Canada. According to a recent Global News story, the wholesale roasting company was recently charged $25,000 by U.S. suppliers of commercial coffee equipment in order to offset tariffs.
BestCup Upgrades Production with NVP Degassing in its Hi-Fi Pods
Salt Lake City-based specialty coffee pod manufacturer BestCup recently announced the integration of its in-house proprietary Nitro Vacuum Pulse (NVP) degassing equipment to its Hi-Fi Coffee Pod technology. The company says its NVP system combines nitrogen pressure pulsing and vacuum assistance to reach optimal de-gassing levels for pod-packed coffees. BestCup rolled out its compostable coffee pods last year.
Coffee Shop Owner Goes Viral Calling Out Gentrification in Brooklyn
Rachel Nieves, the owner of Buddies Coffee in Brooklyn, New York, was featured in an article from The Cut after going viral on TikTok for calling out gentrification in her shop’s historically Puerto Rican area Brooklyn. In the piece, Nieves discusses going viral, gentrification and “the worst advice she ever got.”

Artly AI, a leading AI robotics company for service industry applications, presented a natural-looking robotic hand upgrade for its robot barista, Barista Bot, at this week’s Nvidia GPU Technology Conference in San Jose, California.
Starbucks Ordered to Pay $50 Million In Hot Spill Suit
A jury ordered Starbucks to pay delivery driver Michael Garcia $50 million in damages after hot tea from the company burned his genitals, leading to disfigurement and skin grafts. Starbucks said it plans to appeal the verdict, according to AP News.
The Nation Report: Thailand’s Coffee Shortage Prompts Import of 80,000 Tons
Despite expanding plantations and rising prices, Thailand’s coffee production saw a 16,623-ton decline in 2023/24 compared to the prior year, resulting in the import of 80,000 tons of coffee last year, according to a report in The Nation.
Louis Dreyfus Releases 2024 Financial Results
Green coffee and logistics giant Louis Dreyfus Company published a summary of its 2024 financial and sustainability results. The company reported “resilient results” in the face of “market uncertainty and operational challenges,” including $50.6 billion USD in net sales.
Trung Nguyên Expands into Portland
Trung Nguyên Legend Cafe, a Vietnamese coffee chain with more than 110 cafes and four factories, will open its first Pacific Northwest shop in Portland, Oregon, this summer, according to a report from Eater. It would be the brand’s second U.S. location, following one in Los Angeles.
