Beyond the roasters, grinders and brewing devices to which “making coffee” is generally credited, there’s a whole world of tools and accessories that can affect the end product.
The show floor at the recent 2025 SCA Expo in Houston saw scores of new and existing brands rolling out new gadgets and systems designed to simplify or enhance the coffee-making process.
Here’s a look at some of the most engaging new tools or accessories from the show. (Read all of DCN’s 2025 Expo coverage.)
Acaia Umbra Lunar
California-based scale maker Acaia came to the Expo once again launching a device that extends the functionality of its existing products. After launching the Astra system last year, Acaia this year unveiled the Umbra Lunar, screen-free scale that can pair with an Acaia Pearl — or smartphones/tablets running an Acaia app — to display data. DCN will have more on this soon.
ColdPerk Café 2
A new heat-free, gravity-fed coffee concentrate maker for cafes called the Café 2 by startup ColdPerk made its debut at the Expo following stealth-mode development. The system promises to offer cafes a viable means of making espresso-strength concentrate using low-cost, accessible equipment. DCN will have a full report soon.
Squid Tamper
After several years of development, the Squid distribution tool and tamper got its own booth for the first time, stoking enthusiasm and gathering feedback ahead of a Kickstarter launch. The Squid is part of a growing field of vibration-based espresso prep tools.
Flair Wizard Steamer
Manual espresso equipment maker Flair brought some magic to its booth, with the Wizard stovetop steaming device. Launched in March and selling for $189, the 800-milliliter boiler absorbs heat from any source to generate enough strong, dry steam to heat and fluff approximately thirty 10-ounce portions of fridge-temp milk at a time. The Flair Wizard depressurizes and easily opens for refilling. The device’s wand remains cool to the touch, while its gauge indicates boiler pressure and steam readiness.
Marco Milkpal and Touchscreen Pour’d
Ireland-based brewing and beverage dispenser company Marco introduced its Milkpal dispenser to the United States. Additionally, the company rolled out its new Pour’d font, featuring a full-color touchscreen display and control panel.
DiFluid Omnivision and AirWave
Coffee analytical equipment maker DiFluid showed off its recently released AirWave countertop smoke mitigation system for small roasters, as well as a new product called the Omnivision, which detects the color of coffee and first crack during roasting. We’ll have more on the Omnivision soon. Here’s our full report on the AirWave.
CoffMeter A1 and M1
At the same booth, DiFluid also showcased its newer sibling brand, CoffMeter, which offers simpler tools at more accessible prices. At the Expo, these included the A2 roasted coffee color analyzer and the M1 green coffee moisture and density meter. We’ll have more on the CoffMeter brand soon.
Bluewater Cafe Station 1
Water purification equipment company Bluewater set up shop at the Expo to showcase its Cafe Station 1 purification and mineralization system, which is now available for U.S. coffee shops. Samples of Bluewater’s Liquid Rock mineral concentrate were also distributed. For more info on Bluewater and the Cafe Station 1, see our original report.
Eureka Mignon Automatic Tamper
Literally tucked in a corner of Italian grinder-maker Eureka‘s thoroughly stocked booth was an upcoming automatic tamper designed to pair the Eureka Mignon line of home coffee grinders. The company plans to formally launch the Mignon auto-tamper later this year at the 2025 HostMilano trade show.
