Multinational green coffee production and trading company Volcafe recently tapped Jason Cortellini as regional general manager for North America, effective June 3.

A former commodities buyer at companies such as Sara Lee and Hillshire Brands, Cortellini joins Volcafe after more than 15 years at Tata Consumer Products, part of India-based Tata Group.

At Tata Consumer Products, Cortellini most recently served as U.S. vice president and head of an initiative called the Coffee Center of Excellence, according to a recent announcement from Volcafe.

“Jason brings a wealth of industry knowledge and a deep understanding of the North American market,” said Tim Scharrer, Volcafe’s Chief Operating Officer and Regional Director of Europe and North America. “His extensive strategic background and coffee sector experience will be invaluable to Volcafe. I am confident that he will be instrumental in leading the team, navigating an exciting new development phase for Volcafe, and advancing our mission to become the world’s best coffee partner.”

Volcafe currently has sourcing and export operations in nearly all the world’s major coffee-producing regions. The green coffee and logistics company’s subsidiaries in the United States include specialty-coffee-focused importers Volcafe Specialty, founded in 2001, and Genuine Origin, founded in 2016.

Last year, Volcafe announced that its parent company, ED&F Man Commodities, was in the process of being acquired by U.S.-based energy trading company Hartree.

The acquisition is pending, although the European Commission has already given the deal clearance under the EU Merger Regulation, as of April 2025.
