Book Tour Launched for “Robusta — Canephora: A Guide to Loving It!”

Amsterdam-based coffee professional Mikołaj Pociecha, the founder of roasting company Chunky Cherry, just released a new book called Robusta — Canephora: A Guide to Loving It! Co-authored with colleagues throughout the industry, the book is launching with events at coffee spots throughout Europe, including stops in Spain, The Netherlands, Austria and Ireland, with more locations coming. A press release describes the book as “a cultural, technical, and historical guide to a species often excluded from specialty conversations — one that fuels economies, shapes ecosystems, and deserves recognition as a source of complexity and quality.”

GoFundMe Supporting Karla Ly Quiñones Cancer Treatment

Independent coffee entrepreneur and educator Karla Ly Quiñones, co-founder of Café Comunión in Puerto Rico, was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer, according to a GoFundMe set up on her behalf. The campaign is designed to help Quiñones and her young family with treatment costs and other needs.

Nestle Plans $89 Million in Additional Investments in Manufacturing in Brazil

Multinational food giant Nestlé’s Nescafe business announced a plan to invest $89 million USD more in Brazil by 2028, adding to the approximately $176 million USD investment in coffee machine manufacturing announced last year, according to an article in Reuters.

Map It Forward Launches Middle East Podcast

Coffee events and consulting firm Map It Forward has launched the Map It Forward Middle East Podcast, a regional spinoff of its five-episode-a-week Daily Coffee Pro Podcast. The podcast will be hosted by Map It Forward founder Lee Safar. In a press release, the firm described the launch as “the first step in a broader global expansion of the Map It Forward brand.”

GoFundMe Supporting Groundswell Cafe in St. Paul After Fire

A fire last week severely damaged the two-story building at Thomas and Hamline Avenues in St. Paul, Minnesota, including the first-floor Groundswell Cafe, according to TwinCities.com. “Everyone is safe, and that is what matters most,” the company wrote on Instagram. A GoFundMe is providing support.

Royal New York Unveils New Website

Green coffee importer Royal New York has rolled out a redesigned website, featuring a news carousel, Instagram feed, and upgraded commercial tools to streamline the user experience.

Briggs Coffee Launches New ‘Soft Pod’ Brewer 

Los Angeles-based Briggs Coffee Company has introduced the single-serve Briggs Soft Pod Brewer. Operating at 200–205 °F, the machine uses as-yet-unreleased “soft pods” with up to 13 grams of coffee, according to a press release.

Verve Coffee Closing DTLA Cafe

Santa Cruz, California-based Verve Coffee Roasters is closing its downtown Los Angeles cafe on June 1. The company wrote on Instagram that “the evolving landscape Downtown has made it no longer sustainable for us to continue operating at this location.” The company’s other LA-area shops remain open.

Dunn Brothers Coffee Names Benjamin Anderson President

Minneapolis-based Dunn Brothers Coffee announced Benjamin Anderson as its new President. Anderson has over 25 years of experience in the food and beverage industry, including recently at Caribou Coffee, according to a press release.

Family Dollar Agrees to Settlement in Chestnut Hill Coffee Class Action Suit

U.S.-based discount retailer Family Dollar has agreed to a settlement in a false advertising class action suit, according to a report from Top Class Actions. The suit claimed that certain products under the Chestnut Hill coffee brand were not able to brew as many cups as advertised.
