A Bigger Dahlia Coffee Blooms in Cleveland

A new and larger bloom of Mexican flavors and style has unfurled in Cleveland with the opening of Dahlia Coffee‘s second cafe location in August.

The 1,200-square-foot Old Brooklyn cafe occupies a freestanding building that was previously home to Rebel Reserve, which sold coffees and teas alongside vintage apparel. 

Inside, earthy tones and Mexican influences now surround a drinks program built around Latin American coffees roasted in Cleveland by Dahlia Coffee Owner Natalia Alcazar.

Dual garage doors connect the indoor and outdoor seating areas, while a slatted-wood bar and accent wall, potted plants and terracotta-colored paint bring natural elements indoors.

“I wanted to stick with the warm feel of my first store,” Alcazar told Daily Coffee News. “I incorporated a lot of warm tones. It feels like a southwestern vibe, with mountains and cactus.”

Alcazar, who grew up in Portland, Oregon, with parents from Michoacán, Mexico, draws on those influences while roasting on a 10-kilogram Proaster CR-06 at First Crack in Cleveland.

Dahlia serves the coffees as drip and espresso drinks alongside flavored lattes including horchata, dulce de leche, cafe de olla and mazapan.

With more square footage than Dahlia’s existing Cudell location — which replaced the original Clark-Fulton location inside the Pivot Center in 2024 — the new shop offers room for expanding the modest food program.

“The new shop allows us to do more breakfast and lunch items. We are now serving breakfast sandwiches on Mexican bolillo bread, breakfast burritos and tortas,” Alcazar said. “We’re hoping to add more to the menu. The first store carries empanadas, which is a big draw for that store.”

Alcazar said she plans to host community events, markets and latte art competitions at the new cafe while devoting more time to roasting as she works toward a dedicated Dahlia roastery.

“My main focus has been the coffee shops, but I would like to take the time to go back to my roots of where Dahlia started, which is roasting specialty coffee.”
