Louisville coffee-and-cookie company Please & Thank You has changed hands through a Chapter 11 asset sale with a new ownership group that includes the owners of longtime coffee supplier Good Folks Coffee.
Good Folks co-owners Matt Argo and Zach Hensley joined Wild Eggs co-founders JD Rothberg and Shane Hall in the new ownership group, according to reporting from multiple local sources.
Federal bankruptcy records show that an entity called RRHHA, LLC, purchased substantially all Please & Thank You assets and submitted the only offer received.
According to an Aug. 10 court order, RRHHA was to pay $137,500 while assuming $37,500 in gift-card and rewards-program liabilities, bringing total consideration to $175,000.
The new owners said they plan to retain core elements of the Please & Thank You brand, including its signature chocolate chip cookies, while modifying the menu and cafe experiences. The group is promoting the transition under the tagline, “Same cookie. Fresh start. More hospitality.”
Please & Thank You currently operates three Louisville-area retail locations.
The deal extends a relationship between Please & Thank You and the folks at Good Folks that spans about 15 years, with Good Folks being Please & Thank You’s primary coffee supplier.
Good Folks launched as a sub-brand of Argo Sons Coffee over a decade ago, and the brand has since expanded through wholesale relationships throughout Louisville and farther afield. Good Folks describes itself as a wholesale coffee roaster serving cafes, restaurants, grocery stores, offices and homes throughout the U.S.
Please & Thank You filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in June, reporting approximately $4.01 million in debt. Court filings show the company had not been profitable since 2019 amid rising operating and labor costs and other financial pressures.
The Good Folks and Wild Eggs group began overseeing operations later that month under a court-approved management agreement while considering an acquisition.
